Director Clinical Risk Management

Crozer-Keystone Health System

This is a Full-time position in Chester, AR posted June 11, 2021.

FR =Full-time Regular , 1 =Day Shift , 8:30 am-5:pm

Position Summary:

Responsible for assessing overall Clinical Risk Program for the Crozer Chester Medical Center utilizing event reports, security reports, verbal communication and assessment of potential legal liabilities.

Develop programs and policies to address adverse trends, which includes acting as a resource for hospital employees regarding risk, and directing activity during risk events.

Liaison with defense counsel in litigated cases and provide supporting materials as requested.

Respond to serious situations to assist Management of same.

Responsible for overseeing claims management and insurance coverage.

To assist Senior Leadership with regard to serious events.

Identifies issues relating to life safety and patient care through event reporting to ensure that quality and level of care is consistent with patients’ health and care needs

Participates, as requested, in the formulation, implementation and review of administrative, clinical and personnel policies related to insurance and risk management issues which are consistent with Hospital policies and contracts and regulatory requirements.

Collaborates in the identification of education, and other learning needs of the Hospital personnel and physicians related to insurance and risk management issues and in the development and implementation of appropriate mechanisms to meet those needs, as evidenced by annual training reports and/or departmental records, participation in Orientation and nursing mandatory in service and through presentations and programs for CMEs.

Participates in the establishing, planning and implementing assessment and performance improvement tools throughout the Hospital as evidenced by education of staff related to insurance and risk management issues and sharing of relevant data with appropriate managers.

Establishes and maintains an ongoing communication system to obtain and provide input and to share pertinent information with staff and managers, as demonstrated by articles in the Journal, participation in orientation programs and committees and through review of issues, protocols, and other information as located or upon request.

Ensures that areas throughout the Hospital operate in accordance with all applicable safety standards, as evidenced by participation in Safety Committee, safety rounds and follow-up of events.

Identifies themes and trends through clinical rounds, safety reports, risk management events, litigation and claims management of strategies to reduce risk.

Implements actions

Participates in developing, approving, communicating, implementing and revising policies and procedures for the department to provide guidelines for operations including protocols, performance criteria, and integration of services.

Ensures staff compliance with all policies and procedures.

Demonstrated by a complete and current Policy and Procedure Manual, minutes, and other records.

Directs operation of department to achieve financial objectives.

Monitors budget on an ongoing basis and reviews variances to ensure financial goals are met or revised as appropriate

Maintains 100% staff compliance in completion of all annual mandatory in service programs as outlined in the Administrative Policy Manual and as required by JCAHO.

Acts as a resource to physicians, medical personnel and corporate office staff throughout Hospital, on an ongoing basis and as requested, as evidenced by participation on committees, sharing of related literature and information and providing timely responses to issues and inquires.

Maintains current knowledge of all applicable licensing, regulatory and accreditation standards and provides assistance to management in ensuring compliance

Establishes work schedules and priorities to ensure that the workflow is controlled

Ensures collaboration with Quality Management, Patient Safety Peer Review for managing events identified by Peer Review and/or other Process Reviews.

Job Requirements

Education and Training:

Experience and Knowledge:

Five years claims and insurance experience preferred as well as an

understanding of hospital legal and liability issues required

Registration, Licensure and/or Certification:  

PA RN License preferred

Associate in Risk Management or Certified Professional Healthcare Risk Manager preferred.

Risk Management credentialing preferred.
