The Global Product organization in Pearson designs and develops research-based products to deliver improved learner outcomes.

The Efficacy and Learning Research division of the Global Product organization is looking for a highly motivated, self-driven Senior Research Scientist to join our Learning Impact Measurement group.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with some of the largest education datasets in the world gathered through Pearson’s online learning products and institutional operations.

The role reports to the Vice President of Learning Impact Measurement and will contribute to efficacy analytics projects and efficacy studies.

The core mission of the Efficacy and Learning Research team is to improve the impact that Pearson’s products and services have on learner outcomes; thus, the position provides the opportunity to facilitate cutting-edge research that makes a substantial contribution to learning and instruction.


Conduct exploratory mixed-methods research to support implementation and continuous product improvement and rigorous mixed-methods research to support external efficacy reporting

Conduct qualitative and quantitative data analysis using both platform data and off-platform data

Work with product, marketing, sales and other Efficacy & Learning Research teams to translate mixed-methods research into customer-facing evidence to support sales and marketing and improve the impact of customer implementation

Use statistical/computer programming skills and programs such as R, SPSS, and/or SAS to:
process and link data collected on-platform with off-platform data produce descriptive statistics on key outcomes of interest apply statistical models that demonstrate relationships between characteristics of learners, their navigation through Pearson online learning products and learner outcomes
Use qualitative analysis methods and/or software to summarize key themes and sentiments across large samples of open-ended responses

Adhere to data privacy and security policies and comply with processes for ensuring the ethical conduct of research with human subjects

Build quantitative and qualitative data expertise and own data quality for allocated areas of efficacy data

Create efficient processes for acquiring, extracting, integrating, transforming, and modelling qualitative and quantitative data to derive insights useful to internal and external customers

Visualize data analysis results for presentations and reports

in educational research, educational psychology, measurement, or a related field

2 years of industry experience; experience in education companies is a plus.

Demonstrated ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data

Proficiency in data processing and data visualization

Fluency in using scientific computing tools like R and SAS

Hands-on experience with SQL and relational databases is a plus

Interest in, and willingness to apply, agile techniques for undertaking research

Problem solving skills, willingness to learn new concepts and methodologies as needed, quickly, and apply them to new problem solving scenarios

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Ability to work remotely with a high degree of autonomy while also contributing to working in a dispersed but collaborative team on high impact problems
