This is a Full-time position in Little Rock, AR posted May 13, 2021.


Engineer II

What You’ll Do:

  • Testing and certification of data equipment hardware and software. 
  • Focus will be on residential gateways, possibly also including fiber OLTs, switches, DSL access multiplexers, and other network devices as relates to a service provider.
  • Automation and programming in a lab environment. 
  • Testing new features and services and providing short- and long-term network engineering guidance.
  • Author detailed test plans and oversee lab execution of test bed and test cases
  • Design, Write, and Publish Reference Architectures to guide the evolution of the Windstream Broadband Network
  • Write and Publish Technical Specification Documents (TSDs) that are vendor-specific and include provisioning and troubleshooting guidelines
  • Work with Marketing, Engineering and Operational teams on new services and products
  • Working knowledge of various Broadband Architectures, including their Topologies, Capacities and Best Practices
  • Follow Industry trends and new technologies and incorporate them into a forward-looking 3-5-year Network development
  • Utilize high level communication and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain productive working relationships
  • Promote positive change in the company’s business strategy through achievement of customer specific objectives and technological innovation of practical and profitable nature
  • You will be reporting to the Staff Manager Engineering.

Do You Have?

  • Understanding of network/telecom and cloud industry
  • Experience and technical depth with in-home technologies such as modems, residential gateways, WiFi, IoT.
  • Understanding/willingness to certify and manage in-home equipment via an Auto Configuration Server (ACS) in both lab and production environments
  • Ability to stay current with economic and technological developments in the industry
  • Familiarity with the work of standards-bodies such as IEEE, IETF, Broadband Forum, MEF, etc.
  • Knowledge of Broadband, VOIP and IP technologies
  • Knowledge of operating systems including Linux, Unix, and Windows
  • Knowledge of microservice development patterns, principles, and container technologies (such as Docker, Rkt, LXC, LXD), and microservice/container platforms (such as Kubernetes or Docker Swarm) and cloud architecture
  • Programming experience with coding languages (such as Golang, C, Java, Python, NodeJS, or Ruby), API development (such as REST/JSON or gRPC)
  • Excellent analytical and project management skills
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills
  • Strong technical writing skills for documenting test plans, test results, certification, and application guides
  • Ability to independently manage workload and intergroup expectations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data networking as applies to a service provider
  • Strong knowledge of accepted engineering practices
  • Strong computer software knowledge including Microsoft Office, MS Visio, Confluence, JIRA, etc.
  • Excellent documentation skills in writing and following published lab test plans for lab testing and certification of new and existing equipment

Even Better: 

  • 3 years in a Network Engineering environment or related technical job field
  • 2 years’ experience working for a Tier 1/Tier 2 Service Provider
