Responsibilities

C
OMPLIES WITH SAFETY AND EMERGENCY PROCEDURES.

Displays knowledge and complies with the National Patient Safety Goals.

Contributes to improving clinical patient safety.

Participates in clinical patient safety rounds.

Implements an age appropriate plan of care in conjunction with the health care team per Scope of Service.

Demonstrates ability and responsibilities during hospital emergencies.

Demonstrates understanding of responsibilities in handling of Infectious waste.

Demonstrates understanding of responsibilities in handling chemotherapy waste and spills.

Demonstrates understanding of responsibilities in cleaning Mercury spills.

Receives annual training and demonstrates understanding of Right to Know policies, procedures and terms.

Demonstrates understanding of departmental rules.

Daily works in a manner consistent with departmental safety requirements.

Demonstrates understanding of policies and procedures related to electrical safety.

Demonstrates understanding of responsibilities when cleaning radiation areas.

Demonstrates understanding of proper lifting and ergonomic working techniques.

Demonstrates compliance with infection control policies and procedures regarding personal hygiene.

Demonstrates compliance with overall infection control policies and procedures applying to laundry processing.

Demonstrates compliance with infection control policies and procedures regarding universal precautions and the exposure control program.

Demonstrates compliance with infection control policies and procedures regarding blood and body fluid spills with glass.

    Qualifications

    Education: High School diploma, GED, Metropolitan Test or equivalent preferred.

    Experience: Healthcare experience preferred.

    Physical Requirements: Position physically requires safely performing the following critical physical demands during the work shift: Continuously lift 10 pounds; frequently lift up to 33 pounds from the floor up to seven feet off the floor; occasionally lift up to 25 pounds from the floor to waist level; constantly push carts using a force of up to 10 pounds; frequently push carts using a force of 21 pounds; constantly pull carts using a force of up to 10 pounds; frequently pull carts using a force of 20 pounds; occasionally carrying items of up to 35 pounds for up to 10 feet; continuously carrying items of up to 10 pounds for up to 100 feet; occasionally carry items of up to 35 pound for up to 10 feet; continuously grip products and equipment of various thicknesses using a wide hand span; continuously rotate body trunk to clean, load and unload linens and products; continuously reach all directions at waist level; frequently reach overhead to clean, restock, and empty linen carts; continuously stand and/or walk; continuously manipulate cleaning equipment and products; occasionally climb up to 3 steps off the ground on a ladder; and frequently bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel and balance. Must have good finger dexterity and normal eyesight. Must also be able to walk, stand extensively, bend, stoop, squat, visually discriminate close objects, hear and distinguish normal sounds.

    Requirements: Requires self-discipline to perform work specifically assigned. Requires a display of personal attitude, courtesy and appearance for others to look favorably on the institution (much contact with public). Required to understand both verbal or written communications and instruction. Requires use of judgement making decisions adherence to standards. Must be able to work weekends and holidays. Requires continuous contact with cleaning solutions.

    Adequate conversational English is required in order that the individual be able to take direction from management, understand how to complete job tasks, communicate adequately with patients and co-workers as necessary, understand and follow safety guidelines, and understand the Associate Handbook and all hospital policies.

    Working Relationships: Requires leadership responsibilities and ability to team build and motivate employees. Requires a normal, responsive relationship indicating sensitivity to other people. Must maintain as confidential information accidentally gained in the process of doing one’s own work. Must demonstrate the ability to cooperate with others.
